The fonds consists of copy prints of photographs taken by Chooutla (Carcross) Residential School teacher A. Richard King of his students and their school life in and around Carcross, Yukon. Subjects include Mr. King, Principal Lawson, Vice-Principal Walters, supervisors Miss Fennell, Miss Barstow and Beverly Bear, the school, tobogganing, and games and activities during Winter Carnival Days and Sports Day. Also included are images of the Matthew Watson General Store and tourists waiting to board the White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) train at the Carcross station. Many of the students in the photographs are identified including Helen Malcolm, Dorothy Johnnie, Judy Hager, Vivian Smith, Velma Silas, Ben Johnson, Nancy Tizya, Virginia Simon and Ann Smith.

The fonds consists first, of papers of Frances Loring: correspondence (largely genealogical), lists of her works, a collection of short stories, articles, newspaper clippings, information about Loring’s father, Frank C. Loring, and two etching plates. Second, papers and other materials of Florence Wyle: poems, diaries, journals, articles, biographical information (including birth certificates, passport), lists (including prices and exhibitions) of her works, and various etching plates. The third part of the fonds comprises a collection of photographs of works by both artists. Lastly, the 1987 accrual to the fonds contains further biographical documentation and correspondence (relating to artworks, to the Loring and Wyle Trust Fund, to personal matters including finances, and to their estate) and an additional collection of photographs. The collection consists of newspaper articles, reproductions, illustrations, exhibition notices and invitations, death notices, photographs and biographical notes on 112 Canadian artists (birthdates 1803 to 1915) and four arts organizations: Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, Ontario Society of Artists, Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and Toronto Art Students’ League.
